And I never knew the song had been remade! I'd love to hear the jug band version, I'll have to check it out.

Don't get me wrong, I did get a kick out of "Just Imagine", but there's a constant conflict inside me between liking what's good and liking what's kitsch. This it kitsch.

Thanks for the rundown. As a student of science fiction, I still want to see this movie someday, but you have adjusted my expectations lower.

I recall fondly the 1960s cover of "Never Swat a Fly" by Jim Kweskin's Jug Band. I didn't know it came from this movie!

yea I saw this movie a couple of years back on the Fox channel. It didn't do much for me. Mostly I watched it for the film history aspect of it. It was like it was trying to be all things. The sets were interesting.

heh, I'm sure people in the future will laugh at our movies of the future like the 5th element or something similar.

I should have given credit to the set designers/art department, Stephen Goosson and Ralph Hammeras. Goosson worked on a lot of famous films throughout his career, although I can't recall any of them being so heavily based on art deco styles. Some of the films like "Gilda" and "Meet John Doe" do have some art deco styles and influences.

Ralph Hammeras didn't exactly set Hollywood on fire, but he's interesting in that he worked on a few really important films, but also did special effects for "The Giant Gila Monster", which is pretty cool.

one other thing the writers got right is that there was a big art deco revival in the late '70s, so it is plausible that everyone would have a stunning art deco apartment in 1980. i wish i had one now.
it would be interesting to see if there are other fims on dvd featuring the same set designers....
