Spectrum Culture Review: The Fairy (2011)
Wednesday, February 29, 2012
This week at Spectrum Culture Online, I reviewed the French comedy The Fairy (La Fee) (2011). Having seen the 2005 film L'iceberg by the same creative minds, I was curious -- nay, downright eager -- to see The Fairy, but sadly was underwhelmed.
I want to apologize for the lack of content around here lately. My schedule for getting things done was disrupted by one of my annual big ass sinus infections. If you're desperate for content, the SBBN tumblr is relatively active. If you're willing to wait, I hope to have a new Phantom Creeps recap up in short order. I miss Regis Toomey, and I know you do, too.

Broken Hearts and Random Notions
Friday, February 17, 2012
This week's List Inconsequential at Spectrum Culture Online is about our favorite breakup songs, just in time for that inevitable post-Valentine's Day heartbreak. And even if you aren't going through a breakup right now, you'll feel miserable by the time you listen to all the songs on the list... which is exactly as it should be.
As you know, Bob, I have a lot of photos I've been meaning to post, which is why I finally stepped into the year 2007 and started a Tumblr blog. Are they really called Tumblelogs or is Wikipedia just playing a prank? I'm going to assume it's a prank. Anyway, all those random photos of mine will be posted over at the Tumblr version of SBBN, so if you're interested in crazy random old Hollywood pictures, check it out. The larger galleries will still be posted on the SBBN Flickr page, and I'll post here to let you know when I have a new gallery up. I've got links to both the SBBN Tumblr and Flickr accounts on the sidebar.
For about two months now I have been unable to add anyone new to my Blogroll gadget. It's a problem a lot of people are having, Google is aware of it, and as usual, they don't give a damn. I'm not ignoring any of you who should by all rights be on the Blogroll, but until Google stops spending all their time ruining Gmail and Reader and starts fixing the bugs, my hands are tied.
What with Blogger frequently going tits up on a regular basis, I am very close to moving my blog to another platform entirely. I'll let you know if I do, but it should be a painless, invisible move as I'll simply redirect my URL to the new blog and leave this one up as an archive.
And now a random photo, more Neil Diamond just to piss some of you off:

Dead Pigeon on Beethoven Street (1973) at Spectrum Culture Online
Monday, February 13, 2012
My review of the Samuel Fuller made-for-TV movie Tote Taube in der Beethovenstraße, a.k.a. Dead Pigeon on Beethoven Street (1973) is up over at Spectrum Culture Online. The review is for their Oeuvre segment, a running list of reviews for the entire work of a specific director, and Oeuvre's subject is Sam Fuller. Fuller had a notorious dead period during the 1970s where he was quite inactive, though he did manage to write and direct an episode of the German television show "Tatort." "Tatort," by the way, is still running on German television, broadcasting made-for-TV movies a few times a year. This particular hour and a half episode by Fuller was released as a feature film elsewhere in Europe and, briefly, in the U.S. It is available on a Spanish DVD which I think may be a bit edited from the original German version.
Dead Pigeon on Beethoven Street is a strange bird, hard to classify and difficult to follow. Click here to read the entire review at Spectrum Culture Online.

List Inconsequential at Spectrum Culture Online
Friday, February 10, 2012
This week at Spectrum Culture Online: List Inconsequential: Football and the Movies is well worth the read, not just because it's excellent as always, but because it marks the debut of yours truly as a writer for Spectrum Culture. I'm ridiculously excited to be writing for Spectrum, and so pleased that they allowed me to become part of their amazing team of writers and editors, and I can't wait to contribute more.
My contribution to this week's List Inconsequential is on page 2. If you're wondering what I wrote about, this photo might be a hint... but I make no promises.
