Shatnerthon: Reminder, Links, & Brief Announcement!

Saturday, June 26, 2010

What's that sound? Why, it's the sound of the impending Shatnerthon coming our way! That's right, folks, the Shatnerthon starts in less than a week on July 5 -- tie a Bird of Prey to your finger so you won't forget!

I already have 2 entries, so if you have something already done, feel free to send it along. If you don't have anything, may I suggest these fine links to help you get started:

  • The First Church of Shatnerology. I've been a member, inasmuch as one can be a member of a group that apparently has no official membership, since the mid-1990s. The page hasn't changed much in the last, er, decade, but there are a bajillion links and it's funny and it's semi-Shatner-approved.

  • More Shatner, the LiveJournal group. If you're looking for uploads of rare Shatner films and pictures and all sorts of neat things, look no further. Seriously, this site is terrific.

  • Bill's official home page. It's a little spazzy, but we wouldn't want it any other way.

  • The Standardized Should I Stalk William Shatner Test. The quiz itself is funny, but a few of the comments are absolute gold. "Nice to see my tax dollars hard at work," indeed.

  • Shatner's Toupee. An in-depth, exhaustive analysis of the various states of Shatner's hair. My favorite will always be the Shatner Turbo 2000, featured on "Night Court" and briefly mentioned in the comments of this Shatner's Toupee article about the time in 1994 when Shatner gruffly terminated a radio phone-in interview when asked about his hair.

  • Look At His Butt. It's about Shatner's butt. The blog of the Shatner Butt Girls. So much fun.

  • From Classic Television Showbiz, an episode of "Match Game" with Shatner as a guest panelist. I have seen this one in reruns; he's sporting "Impulse" hair. Was he ever on a "Match Game" at the same time as Charles Nelson Reilly? Would that have caused a rift in space-time? Probably.

Good news, everyone: I've added 2 more DVDs to the prize pile.

First place -- which is just a fancy way of saying "the first name I or one of my lazy cats draws out of a hat" -- will get the Twilight Zone Vol. 2 DVD with "Nick of Time". These TZ DVDs have 4 episodes each, and this Vol 2. set also includes "It's A Good Gonna-Wish-You-Into-A-Damn-Corn-Field Life" with Billy Mumy. The other DVD you'll get is "20 Great Westerns: Heroes & Bandits" DVD. The Westerns DVD includes Shatner playing twin brothers in "White Comanche" with Joseph Cotten. I have that movie on VHS and it's a hoot. Plus there are 19 other movies with actual actors and props and sets, so you can't really go wrong.

The second place (i.e. "second name I draw out of a hat, wait, do I even own a hat?") will be the Twilight Zone Vol. 9 DVD with "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet". This disk also has "Time Enough At Last," "Monsters are Due on Maple Street," and "Odyssey of Flight 33". You'll also get a 2-movie DVD that includes the infamous Esperanto "Incubus" and a 1973 made-for-TV pilot movie called "Incident on a Dark Street." Hours of sittin' on yer hinder entertainment! I say that as a person whose main form of exercise is moving to the middle cushion on the couch when the one I'm sitting on gets a little too toasty.

Remember, anyone who enters can win these exciting DVD-like prizes! The DVDs are all Region 1, but I'll ship them internationally if you really want them and have a region-free DVD player.

Come join us for Shatnerthon, starting next Monday!

hey, so I gonna do a few flick reviews and then a Shatner retrospective on said flicks -- the reviews are not Shatner centric, but they do speak to Shatner. Zat ok?

That's A-OK! Sounds great, I can't wait to read it.

I kinda remember him - he had pointy sideburns, wot?

Stacia said...

Nah, he was the one with the Scottish accent.

Nah, That was Scooter or some such. I can't really write anything about Shatner, sorry, but I'll avidly read the posts during this interregnum.
