Set Your Recorders: The Wicker Man (1973)

Thursday, December 3, 2009

Because some of you may have been reminded of "The Wicker Man" (1973) last week when Edward Woodward passed on, I wanted to mention that it's going to be on TCM's Underground this Friday night/Saturday morning. Sure, you can get it on DVD, but what are the chances you'll have this exact DVD sitting around waiting to be watched when you get in from late-night carousing on Friday night?

"The Wicker Man" is on at 1:00 AM Saturday morning (i.e. late Friday night) Central Time. Check your local listings. Do not exceed 3 doses in 24 hours. Void where prohibited.

The Underground film that follows is "Curse of the Demon" (1958), a really terrific Dana Andrews horror film that you must see if you haven't already. TCM shows it quite a bit so if you miss it, don't worry, it'll be on again. Probably within 48 hours, if recent scheduling is any indication.

I promise actual content is forthcoming. I feel like a blogging slacker lately.

I grabbed a DVD rip of Wicker Man when it was on Flix on Demand a month or two back--they actually showed it in the letterbox version!

I second the emotion re: Curse of the Demon; it's a definite keeper.

Two of my favorite horror films. Demon is really good for the time, and well, Wicker Man is the Wicker Man. A must see.

A helluva double-header!

Say did you catch "Until They Sail", a rare Paul Newman home-front film? Set in NZ with Joan Fontaine, Jean Simmons, Piper Laurie and Sandra Dee. Interesting diversion.

Oops, I forgot to mention it was on TCM yesterday.

Van, I missed that one. But I did get the Newman film "The Rack", happened to hit the recorder just as it started and will watch it tonight.

The Wicker Man and Curse of the Demon - that's a pretty good double-feature!
