Set Your Recorders: Sherlock Holmes on TCM

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Approximately 8,000 Sherlock Holmes movies will be on TCM starting 7:00 PM Central time Friday (Christmas Day). This marathon goes for 24 solid, entertainment-filled hours. Most movies are the Basil Rathbone versions, including some really hard to find ones, but there are a few other Holmes in the mix. Check the listings here and don't forget to click on the next day to see the rest.

Excuse me while I buy a few spindles of DVDs.

The only Rathbone-Bruce left off the schedule is The Woman in Green (1945)...and I'm trying to explain to my mother that because of this, we cannot sell her prized MPI Holmes DVD box sets on eBay.

I'm really looking forward to seeing A Study in Terror (1965), which I caught via VHS nearly twenty years ago, and the 1922 John Barrymore version, which I have not seen.

I have already purchased an new pack of DVD. It's going to be a banner day on TCM. I am ready!

I think I have a PD version of Woman in Green around here somewhere, but I'm not going to dive into the DVDs to check. I've decided I'll just record everything, even "Private Life of", and sort through what I own and what I don't later.

The only issue I have with recording these is figuring out when to set my alarm to get up to swap out disks.

The Woman in Green was on one of the Fox Movie Channels recently. Hadn't seen it years, and it's one of the better R-B pastiches, that's for sure.

Yes it was banner day, esp. the showing (and recording of) of A Study in Terror, which is hardly ever shown. I am sure we all know them by heart, but like a good old tobacco slipper, they remain dear.
