Set Your Recorders: Wings (1927)

Thursday, May 22, 2008

I don't plan on making a habit of this, but I wanted to let you know that "Wings" (1927) is going to be on TCM this Monday at 5:00 AM Central. Now there is no excuse not to watch! The film is difficult to find in the U.S. so you may not get another chance to see it for a while.

For anyone interested in a walk down memory lane, here is my previous post on "Wings" from all the way back in October. Oh, we were young then, weren't we?

EDIT: David O. on rec.arts.movies.past-films has noted that "Wings" is also available through his cable company's On Demand selections. Check your local listings.

Wow, I'd totally forgotten that El Brendel was in Wings. He was quite good in that.

I have the Mandarin DVD version, but haven't watched it in ages. I have to admit I usually cry at the end. Didn't Buddy Rogers end up marrying Mary Pickford? I think they were together until she died. He was pretty hot, in that earnest juvenile sort of way.

I really like El in "Wings". I also have the Chinese DVD of the film, it's the only way you can really get the movie right now.

Buddy Rogers is good, and he did marry Mary Pickford. There are reports that she kept calling him "Doug" after she started to go senile. He tried so hard to keep her comfortable after she was clearly losing it from age and drink, he must have been a terrific guy.
