About the Blog

She Blogged By Night is my personal blog, a record of my journey through films and culture, focusing on lesser-known and hard to find films.
SBBN is a low-traffic blog. Begun on September 24, 2007, on January 1, 2009 SBBN had received over 36,700 unique visitors, and on January 23, 2010 it had received 125,218. It gets on average 165 unique hits per day, 350 on days I manage to post something. Ahem. Many visitors come via Google Image Searches.
POSTS:
There will be spoilers.
The content on SBBN is not intended to be neutral, it is intended to reflect my opinion and observation.
SBBN has one primary goal: To provide information on rare, hard to find, or forgotten films. Secondary goals include various film projects of mine, galleries of photos and screencaps, as well as brief posts on recently watched films. The categories of posts on SBBN are:
- Executive Summaries: Summaries with a bit of reflection and review in them, along with screencaps, photos, links, and even research information if I have the time or ability. I call them "executive summary" posts because they are usually very long, the exact opposite of what an executive summary should be, which I think is funny. Such is my sense of humor. These summaries are not intended as full fledged reviews unless specifically noted, so please keep the bitchy comments about how I don't do a proper review to yourself.
- Recently Watched: Self-explanatory. I try to avoid spoilers in these.
- Projects: As of January, 2010 I have 2 official projects, The Marie Prevost Project and The Bette Davis Project. A couple more projects will be introduced this year. Follow the tags on the sidebar to see all posts for a specific project.
- Photo Galleries: Dude, I have a metric freakload of pictures. Sometimes I just have to post a bunch of them to get them out of my pending list.
- Screencaps: Some with quotes, some without. The movies in my screencap posts are always films I enjoy. The quotes accompanying the screencaps may not seem like they're positive, but they are intended to be.
- Halloween: I post something every day during the month of October. The first year was 2009, and I swear to you I actually lost readers when I posted every day. Let's see if we can repeat that in 2010, shall we?
POSTING SCHEDULE
There may often be lengthy gaps between posts due to health issues, school, job hunting, laundry, or other craziness that occurs. I don't particularly want to go into detail about these health issues, but should note that while they are somewhat debilitating, they are likely not life-threatening. In the past I made "sorry for the delay" posts when there was a long gap between entries, but will no longer do so.
I would love to update with summary posts at least 4 times per month, but it's just not feasible for me right now. Keep in mind that many of the Executive Summary posts take hours to complete. Lately the Recently Watched, Picture Gallery and Project posts have been filling up most of my content, so I post more often than in previous years.
I usually take a few weeks of hiatus toward the end of the summer.
COMMENTING POLICY:
SBBN started out as PG, but now I and my commenters wander into R territory if the desire arises.
However, there is a no tolerance policy for assholes and shenanigans on this blog. No exceptions. I will delete any comment that contains unacceptable profanity or slurs directed at someone, is unnecessarily inflammatory, invokes ad hominem attacks, promotes illegal activity, spams, or even if I just darn well feel like it. Disagreement is fine, but remember that there's a fine line between constructive conversation and bossiness, intolerance and flaming. Comments for entries are usually on but may be turned off at my whim, especially if spammers are attacking the entry.
As I say above, the content here is entirely reflective of my own opinion and observation. This is not a negotiable issue. Sometimes I am not nice about a movie or actor, and you can discuss it, explain in a sensible manner why you think I'm wrong, whatever. Basically, act like an adult and you can disagree with me until your face is blue. However, you have no right to scold or flame or freak out. These are my opinions on my blog written on my time and my dime. Anyone -- especially the oh-so-brave anonymous anyones -- who come here to tell me I'm a bad/stupid/evil person will find their comments deleted. Repeatedly. Blogs are free; go nurse your grudges elsewhere.
Note, however, that I tend to avoid and ignore any groups of film bloggers who consistently nurse grudges, pretend they are part of the Internet Cool Table crowd, or whine about others without having the gonads to complain directly to the person they whine about.
BLOGROLL, SIDEBAR AND FOLLOWING:
My sidebar contains a blogroll, a "webroll", blurbs, a little Google gadget summary list of blogs I read, and my Google gadget of Followers.
I can't keep all the blogs I read straight. Who knows why some blogs are on the Blogroll and the gadgets while some blogs are missed entirely. I've tried to organize, but it's time consuming and it makes me sad and angry. If your blog is forgotten it's just a sign that I'm disorganized, but sometimes I'm picky about who I add, too. I particularly avoid blogs that delve into the political, focus on negativity or hate, or are commercial in nature.
It's not a personal affront if I don't read your blog even if it's on my Blogroll. I am constantly weeding out blogs because the post doesn't show up in its entirety in my RSS feed, or because the only films blogged about are current films (which I rarely watch), or other fussy reasons like that. Because I am a fussy person, I do fussy things.
EDITS TO POSTS:
Most bloggers don't edit their posts once the post goes live, but I don't follow that protocol. Posts will be edited whenever I see fit, as I consider SBBN more of a webpage than a blog. If I make a mistake I go back and correct it, whether it's a typo or a larger informational mistake. I may also update a post to include new information.
In the past I kept a page of edits here, but I no longer update it. Edits to a post that are minor, like correcting typos, are just done and not noted. More major edits will just be noted within the post as a new edit. It's easier that way.
ABOUT THE GIRL:
My name is Stacia and I live in Manhattan, Kansas, with two fuzzy cats, one fuzzy husband, and a woefully small movie collection. I have been on the 'net since 1993 and can be found on Usenet, journal sites, film forums and as commenter on other blogs.
